This role sits between Shopify development and ecommerce operations. You’ll be technically capable enough to make front-end changes yourself, while also taking ownership of platform administration, apps, integrations, testing, troubleshooting and ongoing improvements.
You’ll work closely with ecommerce, marketing, CRM and technology stakeholders, as well as external development partners, to keep the online stores performing reliably and deliver improvements to the customer experience.
What you’ll be doing
- Managing and improving Shopify stores, themes, settings and supporting applications
- Completing front-end Shopify development across landing pages, templates, components and site functionality
- Working with Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Implementing, configuring and troubleshooting Shopify apps
- Reviewing existing apps and identifying opportunities to improve functionality, performance or cost
- Supporting integrations across the wider ecommerce technology environment
- Translating ecommerce and marketing requirements into practical technical solutions
- Preparing briefs and acceptance criteria for externally delivered development work
- Coordinating priorities across internal stakeholders and external partners
- Completing functional testing, regression testing and user acceptance testing
- Investigating bugs and coordinating fixes
- Supporting promotions, campaigns, launches and other time-sensitive trading activity
- Identifying improvements across conversion, usability, SEO and site performance
- Maintaining documentation around apps, integrations, configuration and platform processes
You’ll ideally come from an active retail or direct-to-consumer ecommerce environment and enjoy being hands-on inside Shopify.
You’ll bring:
- Strong practical experience with Shopify or Shopify Plus
- Experience administering themes, apps, settings and supporting services
- Front-end Shopify development skills across Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Experience implementing and troubleshooting Shopify apps
- Exposure to ecommerce integrations and supporting technologies
- Understanding of conversion optimisation, analytics, technical SEO and site performance
- Experience with QA, regression testing and UAT
- A good understanding of the ecommerce customer journey and online retail trading
- Experience supporting promotions, campaigns and product launches
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Clear communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
Experience within retail, apparel, lifestyle or omnichannel ecommerce would be advantageous, along with exposure to retail ERP/POS systems, CRM, email marketing, onsite search or loyalty platforms.
About the role
This isn’t a pure software development position, and it isn’t an Ecommerce Manager role.
It will suit someone who enjoys combining front-end Shopify work with the operational side of ecommerce: solving problems, testing changes, managing apps and integrations, supporting live trading activity and making sure the platform works effectively for both customers and the wider business.
If you enjoy being hands-on with Shopify and want to take greater ownership of an established ecommerce platform, we’d like to hear from you.
