What to do when you've been counter-offered

As a job seeker, managing counteroffers is an awesome position to be in, you’re hot property! And with multiple job offers on the table, it’s time to do some serious thinking.

Counteroffers from current employers tend to be all about the money: the one thing they can influence you with. However, statistics show that most people who accept counteroffers from their current employer tend to leave within 12 months.

Underlying issues that initially push employees to find a new job elsewhere still exist in their current job. It could’ve been a manager that sucked, a brand they didn’t really care about, or a tedious role with no signs of career progression: money isn’t always the best motivator.

The key message is, avoid being drawn into a potential trap. Thoroughly review the reasons you decided to look elsewhere in the first place, and stick to your guns.
